Adult Dogs For Adoption

We are looking for a forever pet home for our sweet Jasper. We are retiring him from breeding and would love to keep him, but having two males in the same household makes that challenging for us. We added a new stud dog to our program, but males compete with each other when females come into season under the same roof! It's in Jasper's best interest to find him a new pet home that will provide him with a lot of love and attention. If this is something you may be interested in, then keep reading below and submit a questionnaire in order to be considered!
"JASPER" On The Rocks
Jasper is 6 years old, intact, and is a dark Golden Retriever. He is registered through the American Kennel Club (AKC), which shows he is a pure bred Golden Retriever. His date of birth is September 23rd, 2019. Jasper is a healthy dog and doesn't need any vaccine boosters until August. There is a small rehome fee and we will ask you to neuter him within three months of taking him home. If you want to see all the health testing we did on Jasper for breeding purposes, visit this page! More photos and videos of Jasper can be found on our social media pages.

We raised Jasper as a puppy and love him very much! He is housebroken, crate trained, gets along with other dogs/people of all ages, toy and human focused, and has a overall medium energy level. At night, he sleeps in our bedroom or in his crate. His favorite toy is a tire and he likes to walk around with it in his mouth. He is very expressive with his tail when he gets excited, which we adore! Jasper only barks to alert us, like when a delivery truck pulls into our driveway or when someone rings the doorbell. He loves to cuddle with us on the couch and will nudge us with his nose when he is seeking attention (we allow our dogs on the furniture). Jasper weighs between 65-69 lbs, receives monthly heartworm prevention, and eats Farmina kibble. Because we are very affectionate with all of our dogs, Jasper is used to receiving a lot of attention from us. We would love it if his new owners were very affectionate with him, too!

Jasper knows commands like sit, down, stay, off, and leave it. He is food and toy motivated and can easily learn more commands if you have the time to train him. Jasper is not destructive and has good meal time etiquette because he doesn't try to jump on the island or kitchen table. He occasionally gets sick in the car, but we have managed it with medications, adjusting his meal times, or adding another companion in the back seat with him. We also use a seatbelt harness and a car seat cover in our car while transporting any dogs. Once we get to our location, Jasper is very excited to go on any adventures with us! We have previously driven him to Vail, Breckenridge, Ouray, Telluride, and even further to Montana and Canada on seperate trips. Jasper has gone hiking, fishing, snowshowing, and camping with us. He has also gone to several places in public with us like the bank, home depot, farmers markets, restaurants with dog friendly patios, etc.

We want Jasper to stay in the state of Colorado and prefer that:
1.) He goes to a home with a fenced in backyard
2.) Your other dogs are already spayed or neutered because Jasper will be intact until he gets neutered
3.) You have prior experience with dogs, especially Golden Retrievers
4.) He goes to a home with owners that will be very patient with him during the adjustment period

Jasper is currently residing with my folks in Aurora. My parents do not like dogs on their furniture and Jasper quickly learned not to do that in their home. My parents also have many plants on the floor or within his reach in almost every room of their house and Jasper isn't interested in them. He is more interested in following my folks around the house!

When adult dogs get rehomed, it can take up to three months for them to adjust (similar to a puppy). Remember your home is very different from our home with new people, new smells, and maybe new pets that Jasper will not be familiar with. Things that could happen during the adjustment period may include: lack of appetite, disinterest in toys, shyness,
humping behavior between dogs while they test boundaries, etc. Remember, we are here to support you during this process!

If you are interested in Jasper, please email your answers from the 14 questions listed below in a email. Our email address is [email protected]. This will allow us to get to know you better and potentially see if you are a good fit for our sweet Jasper.

Line of work:

1.) Have you been around any sick animals or had any contact with Parvovirus?

2.) What will your routine look like at home with an adult dog?

3.) Is your backyard fenced? How tall is the fence?

4.) When adult dogs get rehomed, it can take up to 3 months for that dog to get comfortable with their new owners and new routine. Think of it from their perspective. It is a big change for them! Do you have the time and patience for this while Jasper gets to know you, your home, and learn your routine? Have you ever heard of the 3-3-3 rule? It's a guideline to help new owners understand the adjustment period.

5.) Do you have other pets and do they get along with other dogs?

6.) How many members are in your household and are there any children?

7.) Who would watch Jasper/your other pets when you go on vacation or out of town?

8.) Because this would be a big transition for both Jasper and us (we will miss him!), we will be in communication with you more frequently in the beginning to help make this transition go as smoothly as possible. Are you willing to stay in touch with us and allow for in person visits (we won't show up unannounced!)?

9.) We don't require our clients to purchase canine health insurance, but we HIGHLY recommend having a plan for many reasons. Is this something you plan on getting for Jasper? If not, we recommend having a reserve on the side for anything unexpected because veterinary expenses are very high these days!

10.) Do you plan to give Jasper monthly heartworm prevention and/or flea and tick medicine?

11.) What kibble are you planning to use for Jasper?

12.) What vaccines do you plan to give Jasper?

13.) Are you planning to use a crate for Jasper?

14.) Do you plan to brush Jasper's teeth or give him dental chews?
